Austin City Limits Music Festival: Live →
The Austin City Limits music fest started today and runs through the weekend. You can stream the live performances from this site. The live video requires Windows Media Player, so Mac users may need to install this plugin. I wish I was there in person again this year, but this is the next best thing.

Google launched a contest to identify ideas that can change the world by improving as many people’s lives as possible. They have earmarked $10 million to fund your ideas for the environment, education, health, community, and other areas of social responsibility.
My Morning Jacket - I’m Amazed (Live Berkeley, CA 9/19/08)
I found this fan video from the MMJ show at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley that I went to the other day. It starts out a little shaky, but the video / audio quality is pretty good once the song kicks in.
Balmorhea - Untitled 1
Balmorhea performs an untitled song for KUT’s Retread Sessions, a public radio show in Austin, TX. The other Retread Sessions videos are also worth checking out.

My Morning Jacket @ The Greek 9/19/08
My Morning Jacket played a great show last night at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. Jim James is an energetic live performer. His act is actually an over-the-top, Spinal Tap sort of ridiculous routine (head banging long hair, fist pumps, flying v guitar, and what not), but he manages to make it look pure rock and roll cool. A couple of the slow songs...
Aidan Hawken - New Prescription
This is the embed player that I mentioned in my last post about Bandcamp. Click play and then wait a few seconds. The player turns into a visualization that moves to the beat of the music (I selected this flower visualization from a few options in the embed tool). Fantastic.
Bandcamp Screencast
This looks awesome. Ethan Diamond, former founder of Oddpost (acquired by Yahoo!), just launched a publishing platform for musicians called Bandcamp. A few months ago I commented on my friend Beach’s blog saying there should be a web product that’s basically Wordpress for musicians. I’m sure it’s an idea many people have had, but Ethan and his team...

A useless, interactive flash animation. Drag the spider by it’s legs or press the space bar to feed him insects.

I’m playing around some more with iMovie and video footage shot from my digital camera. I don’t claim to be any good at this, but it’s fun trying to learn basic video editing. This is roughly 5 minutes of video from right outside my apartment that I compressed into 15 seconds or so. The music is by Twan Van Hovi.
