Stanley Kubrick’s Boxes, by Jon Ronson

I watched this amazing documentary last night.  Two years after Stanley Kubrick’s death, Jon Ronson was invited to the Kubrick estate to sort through more than a thousand boxes of notes, photographs, and other material that the famous director collected over the years while researching his films.  Kubrick had an obsessive attention to detail.  For example, the documentary explains how Kubrick hired a photographer to take hundreds of pictures of doorways throughout Europe as inspiration for set design for a scene that lasts just a few seconds in Eyes Wide Shut.  The video is almost an hour long.  I don’t expect you to drop what you’re doing right now, but do yourself a favor and watch it end to end when you get a chance.  It’s a fascinating story of an artist at work.
